Aaron Rosand

The celebrated violinist and pedagogue Aaron Rosand continues a brilliant career as a teacher on the faculties of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and The Mannes college of Music in New York. He holds the Dorothy Richard Starling Chair in violin studies at Curtis where he has taught for the past 33 years. His students have garnered the top prizes in most of the international competitions and many concert masters of the major orchestras of the world had studied with him at the Curtis Institute. A few outstanding examples are Ray Chen, Stephanie Jeong, Alex Kerr. David Coucheron, Stephen Copes and Richard Lin. At the age of nine , Rosand gave his recital debut at the Chicago Opera House. The following year the young prodigy made his orchestra debut performing the Mendelssohn Concerto with Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Since then he has appeared with the major American and European Orchestras under such distinguished conductors as Rostropovich , Reiner, Kondrashin, Steinberg, Leinsdorf, Bernstein, Skrowaczewski, Slatkin, Maazel and Bloomstedt. Rosand had recorded extensively: the complete Beethoven and Bach sonatas, numerous concertos, specializing in 19th-centry Romantic masterpiece, and acclaimed shorter works with orchestra by Mendelssohn. Tchaikovsky, Lalo, Saint-Saens, Chausson, Wieniawski, Rimsky-Korsakov, Sarasate and Ysaye. His Sarasate and French masterpieces CDs have been bestsellers for many years.
