Dr. Chen-Yun Liu is an active Taiwanese pianist currently based in mainland China. She serves as a Principal Piano Instructor at the Middle School Affiliated to Zhejiang Conservatory of Music. She earned her Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance from Michigan State University and her Master of Music from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Dr. Liu is a core member of the Academic Committee of the Asian Pianists Association, a member of the Zhejiang Musicians Association, and a jury member for the Piano Grading Examinations at Zhejiang Conservatory of Music.
As a high-level talent specialist, she previously worked as an Associate Professor of Piano and Master’s Supervisor at Jiangsu Normal University. During her studies in the U.S., she served as a Piano Teaching Assistant at Michigan State University.
A recipient of numerous Outstanding Teacher Awards, Dr. Liu’s students have achieved remarkable success in major competitions worldwide, including: Quarterfinalist at the George Enescu International Piano Competition, Participants in the Ettlingen International Piano Competition for Young Pianists, Gold Medalists at the Phoenix Blossom International Music Festival, Award winners at the Sino-Swiss Piano Competition of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Yamaha Piano Competition, Lang Lang Grand Canal Cup Piano Competition, Kawai Piano Competition, Shanghai Online Piano Competition, Shanghai Youth Piano Competition, and Steinway Piano Competition, Award winners at the United States Federal Piano Open Competition, American Piano Open Competition, and other prestigious events.
As an accomplished concert pianist, Dr. Liu has been awarded top prizes including: Silver Medal in the Piano Division of the Taiwan National Music Competition, Silver Medal in the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra (NTSO) Piano Concerto Competition, The Klomparents Fellowship at Michigan State University, Honors at the Gilmore Music Festival.
Her performance career has taken her across Taiwan, the United States, South Korea, and major cities in mainland China. She gave a critically acclaimed performance of Sidney Corbett’s The Celestial at Potato Fields at the Tongyeong Arts Hall in South Korea, for which the composer praised her as “a rare talent with keen musical intuition.”
Her performance credits include venues in New York, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Austin, San Francisco, Taipei, Changhua, as well as Xuzhou, Hangzhou, Xi’an, Qingdao, Yantai, Huai’an, Xiamen, Shanghai, and other cities in China.
