Acclaimed for her versatile artistry and profound musicality, violist Ha Ram Choi maint ains a dynamic career that spans the solo, chamber, and orchestral stages. Her perfor mances are noted for their stylistic breadth, encompassing everything from the intricate nuances of Baroque performance to the rigorous demands of contemporary music an d the core Classical repertoire.
Ms. Choi currently serves as the Principal Viola of Collegium Musicum Seoul, Korea’s premier period-instrument ensemble, and is frequently invited as a Guest Principal for prestigious orchestras including the Gangnam Symphony Orchestra and Symphony S.O .N.G. Her commitment to diverse musical languages is further reflected in her active memberships in Ensemble Blank, a group specializing in contemporary music, the Hwa um Chamber Orchestra, which bridges classical and modern works, and Ensemble Uni sson.
As a dedicated educator, Ms. Choi has served on the faculties of Ewha Womans Univ ersity, Sungshin Women’s University, Dongduk Women’s University, and Kongju Nationa l University. She currently continues her passion for teaching as a viola instructor at S unhwa Arts High School and a chamber music coach at Sunhwa Arts School, nurturin g the next generation of talented musicians.
Early in her career, Ms. Choi established a strong international presence through invita tions to prestigious music festivals, such as the Académie de Musique Tibor Varga (S witzerland), Academie Internationale de Musique Maurice Ravel (France), North Americ an Viola Institute, Orford Arts Centre (Canada), and the Great Mountain Festival in Ko rea. She has also performed under the leadership of world-renowned maestros includin g Christoph Eschenbach, Ivan Fischer, and Myung-Whun Chung, and toured Europe wi th the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival Orchestra.
Ms. Choi earned two diplomas with the highest honors from the Conservatoire Nationa l de Région de Paris under the tutelage of Bruno Pasquier. She subsequently obtaine d her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from The Juilliard School on a full schol arship, studying with Heidi Castleman, Misha Amory, and Steven Tenenbom.
